The Botswana University of Science & Technology (BIUST) through the Directorate of Pre-University Academic Programmes (PUAP) continues to stimulate stakeholder interest in science, technology engineering and Mathematics (STEM) across the pre- tertiary education sector through staging science shows targeting pupils and students across different institutions. The interactive science circuses will hit the Lobatse sub-region from the 13th -17th August and the Kgatleng District from 27th August – 7th September 2018.
The objectives of the shows are to demystify and popularize science through amusing, educational science demonstrations and linkage to natural phenomenon.
It is envisaged that through these circuses, BIUST would positively impact and seed the enthusiastic pool of STEM students from pre-tertiary levels of education to BIUST and other tertiary institutions. The main demonstrations are interactive, curriculum based and promote the use of locally available day-to-day materials and equipment.
BIUST seeks to drive change by creating awareness of science, research and technology through community engagement. To this end, Parents Teacher Associations (PTA) and the Media are welcome to witness and popularize the STEM circuses.
