Today, BIUST takes a giant leap towards its vision of becoming a university of industries! We’re thrilled to announce the launch of our Drones Assembly and Testing Center, a groundbreaking collaboration between BIUST and the Mileage Group.
Honored to have the Acting President of The Republic of Botswana His Hon. Mr Slumber Tsogwane, officiate this historic event, underscoring its significance in driving innovation and industry collaboration.
From signing the MOU in early 2023 to realizing this cutting-edge facility, we’ve demonstrated our unwavering commitment to pushing boundaries and shaping the future.
When officiating the ceremony His Honour Mr Tsogwane said drone technology and its applications have proven to be game changers in many instances of technological innovation and scientific advancement.
He further said that “it is, therefore, quite re-assuring to anticipate that the establishment of this Centre has come at the very right time, and I hold a strong opinion that it will go a long way in igniting a revolution of our economic and industrial pursuits as a nation.”
Mr Tsogwane further mentioned that the Botswana Government associates with the imperative that propagates the need for us to come in to support the initiatives of this nature.
He emphasized the need to build a sustainable ecosystem of research development and research commercialization and that it is only proper that we make efforts to bridge the gap between academic innovation and the ingenuity of the private sector.
For his part the Vice Chancellor Professor Otlogetswe Totolo said the enterprise of drone technology and its applications has taken the central stage of modern technological development and it thrills the University ambition to want to be a key player in this new wave of technological advancement.
