This is to inform you that Dr G. Buru and Mr B.E. Otlhomile successfully completed a professional training course in Harmonisation of African Higher Education, Quality Assurance and Accreditation (HAQAA2) Network on African Regional and Continental Integration in Higher Education. The two were selected among other participants to be part of the program after successfully meeting all the requirements of the selection process.
The HAQAA2 program was funded by the European Union Commission through Africa-EU Strategic Partnership. It focused on supporting African higher education integration through training of higher education professionals on issues that affect regional integration. It covered issues related to the application of effective strategic policy management that can promote the quality of higher education in Africa.
In addition, the program focused on Internal Quality Assurance (IQA) and External Quality Assurance (EQA) in Higher Education. Through this program, the two BIUST employees together with other experts in higher education have been equipped with the skills that promote innovative thinking in higher education in the areas of quality assurance in higher education using regional and continental frameworks. Only 5 participants from Botswana successfully completed the program.
Mr Boitshoko. E. Otlhomile is a qualified Instructional designer with Master of Education in Instructional Technology from the University of Zambia. He is currently working as a Writing Specialist in the Department of Academic Literacy and Social Sciences. Otlhomile believes in continuous self-development, and he is currently pursuing a Phd in Educational Technology.
He also holds a BA Degree with majors in Environmental Science and English and a Post Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) both from the University of Botswana. Otlhomile is a certified online educator by Worldwide Academy Industry Network (WAIN).
He has other professional certifications which include; Marketing Certificate which he acquired from the Institute of Commercial Management- London, Certificate in Business Writing from the University of Colorado, Honors Certificate in Writing in the Sciences from Stanford University, Copy-Editing Certificate from the University of CapeTown. Otlhomile is also a passionate researcher with journal publications and conference presentations at local and international conferences.
Dr. Gobonamang Buru is a Lecturer in the Department of Academic Literacy and Social Sciences. She joined BIUST in March 2015 as a Teaching Instructor. She came to BIUST from the University of Botswana, where she was a lecturer in Communication and Academic Literacy Skills in the Communication and Study Skills Unit.
She has taught Academic and Professional Writing for Science, Engineering and Technology, and Business. Prior to joining University of Botswana, she taught as a full-time lecturer for Communication and Study Skills at Molepolole College of Education, where she was Senior Lecturer. Dr Buru has also offered part time lecturing and consultancy services on Academic Literacy and Professional Communication to the Centre for Continuing Education at the University of Botswana. In addition, her teaching experience includes being a tutor for Problem Based Learning course for pre-medicine students. She has authored course books on Professional Communication for Business. She has also facilitated on different aspects of Professional Communication in various contexts.
