BIUST held its inaugural graduation ceremony The Faculty of Engineering and Technology initiated an e-learning platform to support teaching and learning which will in the future be expanded to cover all course modules.

Through collaboration between BIUST and Australia National University, BIUST staged science circuses in Palapye on March 27, 2014.

The collaboration between BIUST and South African National Space Agency (SANSA) was established to catalyze the promotion and use of space and cooperation in space related activities, foster research science, advance scientific engineering through human capital and support the creation of an environment conducive to industrial development in space technologies within the framework of national government policy.

Through engagements with the Ministry of Science, Infrastructure and Technology the following was achieved: Hosted the African Science Circus was held in Gaborone in March 2014 Planning of a collaborative programme with the center for public awareness of science of the Australian University.

As part of its outreach and stakeholder engagement, BIUST hosted its Inaugural National Guidance and Counselors Open Day with the aim of honoring secondary school teachers for the role they continue to play in helping young people realize their career dreams.

As part of preparations for the official opening in August 2012, BIUST released its first academic prospectus.

Following successful preparations to satisfy all the pre-requisites before students can be admitted, BIUST launched the student application process first via cyberspace in February 2012.

The then Minister of Education & Skills Development appointed the BIUST Task Force which was mandated to advise the Government on the best way forward towards the implementation of the University.

The Botswana Export Development and Investment Authority (BEDIA) brought a group of foreign investors to the BIUST campus with interests in property development i.e. student and staff residences and the construction of the second phase of the campus.

On the 21st October 2010, the University hosted Members of Ntlo Ya Dikgosi regarding them touring the campus which was still under construction and to be briefed on the BIUST project.

The Climate Survey was undertaken at the recommendation of the BIUST Council with the view to determine the internal health of the organization and how the staff morale had been affected by the continued delay in opening the University.

Founding campus development, which comprises the library, auditorium, administration block, kitchen, students and staff houses were about to be completed as per the target of completion is concerned.

The University signed an MoU with Akita University in October 2009 to collaborate on a number of learning and research areas including student and staff exchange, research in mining and mining related fields and curriculum development.

The then Vice Chancellor accompanied by Director, Pre- University Academic Programs visited the BIUST Student Development Fellows based in different parts of the world such as the United States of America, Canada, Australia and the United Kingdom.

The University held its groundbreaking ceremony at the Palapye campus by the then Minister of Education and Skills Development Mr Jacob Nkate in April 2009.

Acquisition of a permanent site for the University: BIUST acquired a 2500ha piece of land in the area of Makobeng and Setatse.

Establishment of partnerships with other institutions: Several endeavors were made to collaborate with reputable international institutions to benchmark and seek for possible collaborations.

Development of an Institutional Concept: A consultant from World University Services of Canada was engaged to develop the BIUST concept and strategy.

Identification of Academic Discipline Clusters: The BIUST Council engaged a consultant to further develop the framework for research, innovation and technology transfer: academic governance, management and funding strategy.

Recruitment of human Resources: BIUST entered into an agreement with a Human Resource search firm which specializes in the recruitment of top-level academic personnel.

Development of Batswana for positions in BIUST: The BIUST Council recognized the importance of preparing Batswana at BIUST for academic areas. The Ministry of Education offered financial support for the BIUST in this endeavor. As a result, 28 Batswana were fully sponsored to do STEM courses in Asia, the United Kingdom and the United States of America.

An interim Council chaired by Prof S Mpuchane was established in October 2006 as the governing body for the University and was launched on the 7th December 2006 in Palapye

Assigned a ‘project Facilitator’ function to initiate the establishment of the Botswana International University of Science and Technology

Parliament passed the Botswana International University of Science and Technology Act, No.3 of 2006, establishing the University and its governance structure
