BIUST was honoured to host an official courtesy call by the United States of America Ambassador to Botswana, Ambassador Howard Van Vranken, welcomed by Vice Chancellor Prof. Elisha Shemang.
This visit forms part of the United States’ 250th Anniversary commemorations, through which the U.S. Embassy in Gaborone is leading outreach activities that celebrate the American story and the enduring, evolving partnership between the United States and Botswana.
In this spirit of collaboration, the Embassy partnered with BIUST to host an evening film screening for students and staff, held yesterday following the courtesy call.
During the engagement, Prof. Shemang briefed the delegation on key collaborative projects between the two nations, followed by a tour of these initiatives. In his remarks, Ambassador Van Vranken applauded BIUST’s growing impact, describing the University as a solution not only to Botswana’s challenges, but to global ones as well, given its strong research capacity and collaborative reach.
He further emphasized his commitment to strengthening partnerships with BIUST, noting that despite funding constraints, he is eager to support impactful programmes. He highlighted the University as a vital vehicle for transforming Botswana and advancing meaningful global change.
