Mr. Edwin Ellias expressed his delight at the opportunity to address such an important gathering. He emphasized the critical nature of the seminar’s agenda, highlighting the importance of exploring alternative methods to exploit Botswana’s abundant coal resources. Mr. Ellias welcomed the delegation from Synfuels China Technology Company, led by Dr. Li Yongwang, and acknowledged the deep ties of friendship between Botswana and China.
“Our two countries are bound by deep ties of friendship, both at the government level and people-to-people, which have subsisted over many decades and continue to grow,” Mr. Ellias noted. He stressed the significance of responsible coal resource exploitation to address Botswana’s energy needs and drive economic growth. Mr. Ellias also underscored the government’s commitment to minimizing environmental impacts through modern technologies while harnessing the potential of natural resources.
Professor Totolo shared his reflections on a recent visit to Beijing where he attended a seminar on CTL technologies organized by Synfuels. He recounted the enlightening experience and the successful discussions with Synfuels, which reinforced his belief in the transformative potential of CTL technologies. “The visit to SYNFUELS was a pleasant eye-opener, and my impressions of CTL technologies in enhancing energy security were emboldened by our practical experience,” he stated.
Professor Totolo highlighted BIUST’s ongoing research and development efforts in CTL technologies. He emphasized the importance of continuous innovation and collaboration with industry leaders like Synfuels to achieve a sustainable and energy-secure future for Botswana. He also pointed out the significant economic benefits, including job creation and infrastructure development, that could result from investing in CTL technologies.
Ambassador Dr. Batlang Comma Serema extended a warm welcome to the Synfuels delegation and praised the timing of the seminar, which aligns with Botswana’s efforts to strengthen economic collaboration with China.
