BIUST and FNB signed memorandum of understanding

The Botswana International University of Science and Technology and First National Bank Botswana signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) this morning to formalise the partnership that has been in existence between the two parties.

Speaking during the ceremony the BIUST Vice Chancellor Professor Otlogetswe Totolo mentioned that as a research-intensive institution which is the sole STEM specialised university, it is mandatory for the university to produce great ideas which are aimed at solving societal challenges.

He further said BIUST therefore adapted teaching methodology which allows free creativity and as such researchers turn their well-researched ideas into economic enterprises.

For her part, Learning and Development Manager Ms Maureen Otukile confirmed their support to BIUST in aligning with Vision 2036 and the University vision in achieving the goals of pillar 2 vision 2036 which focuses on sustainable economic development.

She also maintained that this partnership will significantly contribute to vision 2036’s emphasis on human capital development   and emphasised the need for focusing on education and skills development to build a prosperous and inclusive society and preparing students to excel in the workplace.

The main objectives of the MOU include, but not limited to;

  • Talent and skills development
  • Research commercialization.
  • Innovation and Research
  • Graduate trainee initiatives
  • Community development
  • Entrepreneurship and business development
  • Business start-ups
  • Information sharing
