Professor Elisha M. Shemang is the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Teaching and learning. He joined Botswana International University of Science andTechnology (BIUST) in 2012 as a Professor and Founding Head of Department, for Earth and Environmental Sciences 2012. Hhe was later promoted to the position of Dean of the School of Postgraduate School. Before joining BIUST in 2012, Prof Shemang worked at the Geology Department, University of Botswana, from 2000, where he rose from Lecturer to the rank of Associate Professor. He served as Dean of Student Affairs from 1998 to February 2000 at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi, Nigeria. Prof Shemang holds a BSc (Hons) in Geology and Mining from the University of Jos and an MSc and PhD in Applied Geophysics from the University Ahmadu Bello University Nigeria, part of which was accomplished at the Manitoba, Winnipeg, Canada. Hehad his postdoctoral training at the Johannes Gutenberg University, Mainz, Germany.Prof Shemang has supervised and successfully graduated 9 PhD Students and is currently supervising 3 PhD students at BIUST. He has supervised and successfully graduated over 20MSc Students at BIUST, the University of Botswana, and Nigeria. Prof Shemang has established solid partnerships with Universities in Asia, Europe, Africa, and America, such as Akita University, the University of Delaware, the University of California (Davis), Columbia University, Freie University of Berlin, the University of Pretoria, University of Lausanne Switzerland, where students from BIUST obtained Master and Doctorate Degrees. Prof Shemang has also established partnerships with industries. He served as Deputy Coordinator BIUST-Debswana Partnership and has been leading Partnership with Aqua Logic Pty Ltd, Cowburn Isherwood and Associates Water Resources Consultants Pty Ltd, amongst others. Prof Shemang has a great passion for interdisciplinary and collaborative research as a professor of Geoscience, he has published 63 research articles in international peer-reviewed journals, 13 refereed conference proceedings, 5 book chapters, edited 1 book and 43 conference presentations) and has obtained research funding worth millions of dollars as PI/Co-PI). Prof Shemang has served as a reviewer for various Journals and Research Organizations, some of which are the National Research Foundation of South Africa (NRF), Water Research Commission (WRC), South Africa, Journal of African Earth Sciences, Earth Science Research Journal; Journal of Environmental and Engineering Geophysics JEEG, Applied Clay Science, etc. He has served as an external examiner for undergraduate and postgraduate (MSc and PhD) and also served as an external assessor for the promotion of staff to professorial rank in universities in South Africa, Botswana, Ghana and Nigeria. Prof Elisha M Shemang is a fellow of the African Scientific Institute (ASI) and of several professional bodies such as the Society of Exploration Geophysics (SEG); the Engineering and Environmental Geophysical Society (EEGS), the American Geophysical Union (AGU), the European Association of Geoscientistand Engineers (EAGE) International Association of Hydrogeologists (IAH), Botswana
