Zero Hunger
BIUST Contributions and National Alignment
About SDG 2
Sustainable Development Goal 2 (SDG 2) aims to end hunger, achieve food security, improve nutrition, and promote sustainable agriculture. Food insecurity remains a pressing challenge in Botswana and Sub-Saharan Africa, driven by climate change, drought, land degradation, and limited access to modern technology. SDG 2 is critical not only for ending hunger but also for enhancing livelihoods, reducing poverty, and building resilient communities.
Botswana’s Vision 2036 underscores food security as a national priority, envisioning a resilient, diversified, and sustainable agricultural sector that contributes to economic growth and national well-being. National Development Plan 12 (NDP 12) (2025–2030) further operationalizes these goals, positioning agricultural commercialization, food security, and nutrition improvement as strategic priorities.
