Delivering a message of inspiration to the Class of 2025, Stanbic Bank Botswana’s Head of Business and Commercial Banking, Mr Lesego Osman, reminded graduates that Botswana stands at a critical turning point in its development journey.
As the Diamond Sponsor of the 10th BIUST Graduation Ceremony, Stanbic Bank reaffirmed its commitment to nurturing the next generation of innovators, entrepreneurs, and leaders.
Quoting the Honourable Minister of Finance’s 2025/26 Budget Speech, Osman noted that while Botswana’s reliance on diamond revenues has long been a strength, it has also revealed vulnerabilities. “You, the Class of 2025, are the generation that will help us reduce that vulnerability—through innovation, entrepreneurship, and resilience,” he said.
The Minister had outlined a strategy focused on halting financial haemorrhaging, stabilisation, preparing for take-off, and building a “New Botswana.” Osman stressed that this vision rests on the shoulders of the nation’s graduates, who must carry forward the values of adaptability, collaboration, and ethical leadership.
Three Reflections for Graduates
Osman shared three guiding principles for the Class of 2025:
• Stay Curious and Keep Learning – Lifelong learning, adaptability, and reskilling will be crucial in an economy increasingly shaped by technology and innovation.
• Lead with Collaboration and Integrity – Botswana’s development model thrives on consultation and ethics. Graduates were urged to value diverse perspectives and lead with integrity.
• Be Courageous and Visionary – Boldness and resilience will define the next generation of leaders. “Smooth seas do not make skillful sailors,” he reminded them, highlighting the importance of facing challenges head-on.
Reaffirming Stanbic Bank’s commitment to supporting Botswana’s development, Osman emphasized the institution’s purpose: “Botswana is our home, we drive her growth.”
In closing, Osman urged the Class of 2025 to step boldly into their future. “Carry your knowledge with humility, your success with responsibility, and your ambition with pride,” he said. “Use your brilliance to ignite innovation, uplift communities, and build a Botswana that shines even brighter on the global stage.”
