The School of Business and Professional Development at the Botswana International University of Science and Technology (BIUST) successfully launched its 4th Annual Bootcamp, a dynamic three-day event held from March 25 to 27, 2025. Centered around the theme “Propelling Botswana’s Transformational Agenda for Inclusive Growth,” the bootcamp brought together professionals, entrepreneurs, and emerging leaders committed to advancing the country’s development.
In her welcome address, Professor Makepe, Dean of the School, emphasized the importance of empowering communities and supporting Botswana’s strategic shift from a resource-based to a knowledge-based economy. She highlighted the school’s key departments—Academic Literacy and Social Sciences, Business Management and Entrepreneurship, and the Confucius Institute BIUST—noting their collective role in developing future-ready professionals. Professor Makepe also announced the launch of new professional development short courses set to begin at the end of the month and encouraged participants to seize the opportunity to continue their learning journey.
The bootcamp offered a robust programme featuring leadership development, governance, financial literacy, communication, and cultural competency—including a session on Chinese language and culture. Participants engaged in interactive workshops, practical exercises, and thought-provoking discussions led by BIUST faculty and seasoned external facilitators.
Dr. Kelebonye Bagai, Chairperson of the Bootcamp, remarked: “This year’s bootcamp placed a strong focus on developing leadership skills. While previous editions concentrated on entrepreneurship, this shift aligns with the government’s call for leadership transformation to drive national growth.”
In her closing remarks, Dr. Tsaone Mokgwathi, Acting Local Director of the Confucius Institute BIUST, expressed sincere appreciation to all who contributed to the event’s success: “We’ve had two and a half days of learning, sharing, and exploring practical tools in financial literacy, leadership, and communication. Many of you self-sponsored or were supported by your organizations—your presence made this bootcamp possible, and for that, we thank you.”
Dr. Mokgwathi extended special thanks to participating organizations, including Sowa Town Council and Security Systems, as well as to self-sponsored individuals for their dedication to lifelong learning. She also acknowledged the valuable support of sponsors: CEDA, MAM Filling Station (Palapye), and BOSETU.

As the bootcamp concluded, one message resonated above all: this is not the end, but a beginning—a steppingstone toward deeper partnerships, continuous learning, and transformative leadership in Botswana.
“Knowledge is power,” said Dr. Mokgwathi. “And today, we are stronger, wiser, and better equipped to lead.”
