DR. GAOBOTSE COMPLETES ERASMUS+ TEACHING MOBILITY PROGRAM

DR. GAOBOTSE COMPLETES ERASMUS+ TEACHING MOBILITY PROGRAM

Dr. Goabaone Gaobotse, a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Biological Sciences and Biotechnology, has successfully completed the Erasmus+ Teaching Mobility, a flagship teaching exchange program of the Erasmus+ Program. He undertook this program at Babeș-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca, Romania as a Visiting Lecturer where he delivered lectures to both undergraduate and postgraduate students.

During his Visiting Lecturership at Babeș-Bolyai University, Dr. Gaobotse taught specifically on the areas of Stem Cell Biology, Research and Therapy. Stem Cell Biology is a relatively new branch of regenerative medicine with great clinical potential. He taught about how stem cells are derived, cultured, maintained, and applied clinically during Stem Cell Therapy. Stem Cell Therapy promises to be an exciting alternative form of healthcare that can help in the alleviation of some of some diseases. The understanding of the derivation of Stem Cells is important in understanding the properties of these cells that allow their clinical application during Stem Cell Therapy.

On his Visiting Lecturership, he also presented on current teaching and research activities in the Department of Biological Sciences and Biotechnology in BIUST. BIUST currently offers two Stem Cell Biology modules at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels and current practical work involves experimentation with mouse Embryonic Stem Cells (mESCs).

The Erasmus+ Teaching Mobility Program is funded by the European Union which enables successful participants to teach in Institutions of Higher Education in Europe. A partic
