The module acquaints students with the fundamentals of owning a business, legal and regulatory dynamics and frameworks, the importance of market research, competitors analysis, product, feasibility analysis and the development of a business model and business plan in order to successfully compete in the global marketplace. This is will enable students to plan for the successful operation of a business, identifying sources of revenue and the business position within the industry’s value chain and how relationships are organised around customers, partners and suppliers in order to generate returns and also outlines the logical concept of the business, how it intends to create and monetize value. Many SMEs fail because of inappropriate market, financial assumption and capitalisation of the projects. This is often as a result of poor analysis of the competition and customer preferences and values.
