Information communication technology is all pervasive, we all acquainted to it and there is no science, no engineering and hardly any business that can survive without ICT. The societies of our world have been moving from agriculture societies to industrial societies and are moving towards becoming knowledge societies and ICT is the enabler of these changes. Historically ICT has been a main enabler of change e.g. printing technology, telephone, radio, TV and only lately computers, mobile phones and the internet. There are atleast major ways in which ICT has changed our world.

Firstly using the power of computations e.g. To model our world, simulate it and predict its behavior has been the foundation of much of the recent progress in science and engineering. Now there are super computers with the power of several millions of laptops, being used to solve problems in physics, biology, engineering and analyzing the financial market. Secondly making the information and knowledge available to all of us and connecting us at any time we want, has significantly contributed to our understanding of the world e.g. the internet of Wikipedia, Facebook and twitter has become our main tool for gaining information and also for communication. Therefore the area of ICT has produced the best job opportunities worldwide.

As BIUST is a research university and not only the postgraduate programmes have strong emphasis on research but also the undergraduate programmes are different from what is available at most universities

In particular the undergraduate students get the chance to participate in research projects, get involved in student cantered learning through e-learning. The department consists of 2 programmes covering both the computational and communication aspects of ICT.
