As part of partnership to stimulate the learning of information and technology in Botswana, Huawei ICT Academy is to officially handover Lab equipment donated to BIUST for teaching and research on the 24th of July 2021 at BIUST campus in Palapye.
The benefactions aims to close the gap between the industry, Government and Academia by fostering professional training to both the students and the general public in the ICT industry.The lab equipment is for Network communications , Cloud Computing courses and can be used for other computing modules.The BIUST students from the Computer Science and information’s Systems Department, as well as those studying Telecommunications, Electrical and Computer Engineering will be able to utilise these equipments.
The equipment will also be used for Huawei Professional courses certification by the BIUST students and staff. The available Huawei professional certifications include: HCIA Routing and Switching, HCIA 5G, HCIA Intelligent Computing, HCIA IoT, HCIA Security, HCIA Cloud, HCIA Transmission, HCIA Wireless LAN, HCIA Big Data. BIUST students will have the opportunity to use this equipment during the annual Huawei ICT Global Competition. Huawei will train some BIUST staff on how to use the equipment for the optimal usage. Eventually the academy should be able to train the general public on the available Huawei professional courses in order to self-sustain.
Botswana International University of Science and Technology is a national strategic initiative that is intended to serve as one of the key platforms for transforming Botswana’s economy from being resource based to knowledge based through skills capacity building in Engineering, Science and Technology; Because of its research emphasis, BIUST works with the private sector to meet emerging skills needs of the industry, as well as identify challenges that can be tackled with applied research.
