The Botswana International University of Science and Technology (BIUST) scooped the best Parastatals Stall award at the just ended Ghanzi District Show after participating at the annual event which has grown into a very important national event attracting international, national individuals and exhibitors of diverse cultures for the first time.
The University was provided an opportunity to not only actively promote the University and raise awareness on the university services and offerings, but also to network with the industry and seek partnerships and collaboration in a bid to identify challenges that can be solved through applied research.
This year’s theme was “Sustainable Economic Diversification Beyond 50 years through Green Technology” and the BIUST team did not only provide information on the university services and products but showcased environmental friendly projects which uses modern technology.
The award is a coup for the BIUST and confirms the University as a driver for change, accentuating the University as a driver of change with a vision to be a premier research based university of science, engineering and technology internationally recognised for the quality and excellence of its teaching and learning; research and innovation and engagement.
The show was officially opened by His Excellency President Mokgweetsi Masisi of the Republic of Botswana, who visited the BIUST stall and was impressed by the exhibited projects, particularly the “Real Time Cow Monitoring System using the internet of things” project. President Masisi urged the project developers to speed up its development to assist in the development of the country’s economy.
The Ghanzi Show Executive Committee Chairperson, Mr Thabiso Shane Kebalepile also heaped fulsome praise on the university team for their outstanding participation and for scooping first position competing with other sixteen (16) parastatals, lamenting that this indicates the growth of the university and its commitment on the university stakeholder value proposition.
