The Botswana International University of Science and Technology (BIUST) Vice Chancellor, Professor Otlogetswe Totolo briefed Botswana Heads of Diplomatic Missions on the developments and aspirations that the University aims at.

The virtual session that was hosted by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of International Affairs and Cooperation, Dr Gladys Mokhawa, presented a perfect opportunity for Prof Totolo to take through the envoys on what the University exists for and its road map to be an innovation hub for Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (STEM).

Prof Totolo also reminded the house, that currently Botswana is sitting at 0.5% GDP on R&D therefore this calls for research institutions like BIUST to collaborate more with international universities to improve on the country’s research output and ensuring the development of tangible products and services, which will result on job creation, import substitution and technology and skill transfer.

The Vice Chancellor further called on the delegates to market the STEM specialised university in the countries they are deployed in and help the University realise the country’s aspirations of being a knowledge-based economy.
