Vacancy Announcement
The University is looking for a qualified and experienced individual for the position of Lecturer in the Department Of Academic Literacy & Social Sciences (ALSS).
The position is based at BIUST Campus, Palapye.
The successful candidate will be appointed on pensionable terms or fixed term contract of up to five (5) years.
- To provide and facilitate teaching and learning, and assessment in the areas of Technical Communication, Academic Literacy, Professional Communication and Research.
- To conduct research individually or collaboratively with the view to extend, transform and apply knowledge acquired from scholarship to teaching and relevant external activities.
- To develop, contribute, produce and generate new knowledge through research outputs
- To use research output to enhance the quality of module/ course.
Minimum Requirement
Education: A relevant Master’s and Doctorate Degree in English Language Teaching, Applied Linguistics (with a major in English Language); Or Master of Education and Doctorate degree in Education (majoring in English Language Teaching; MPhil and DPhil (Language and Literacy) Or equivalent.
In addition, A Diploma or Certificate in Teaching or Equivalent is required.
Professional / Technical:
- Membership with any relevant professional body is an added advantage.
- BQA accreditation is an added advantage
Experience: Experience in the teaching of Technical Communication, Academic Literacy, Professional Communication & Research Skills will be an added advantage, especially teaching experience in a higher education environment. Evidence of leadership will also be an added advantage. Ability to develop and package modules according to BQA standards an added advantage.
The position requires the following competencies
- Strong communication skills and ability to use appropriate media in a classroom situation;
- Computer Literacy;
- Good knowledge and understanding of higher education environment;
- Involvement in professional activities;
- Knowledge of Research;
- Ability to prepare and submit proposals and applications to external bodies, e.g. for funding and accreditation purposes;
- Ability to manage & analyse information;
- Ability to supervise research projects;
- Ability to adhere to agreed work plans and time lines;
- Sets and monitors standards;
- Plans, implements and evaluates the offering of modules or courses;
- Ability to work in a team;
- Good personal and organizational skills
- Ability to package ALSS courses according to BQA standards.
