The University hosted its seventh (7) graduation ceremony where 298 graduands; 225 Undergraduates and 72 Postgraduates from various academic disciplines were con-ferred from different academic disciplines. When giving his welcome address the Vice Chancellor, Professor Otlogetswe Totolo alluded that Economic transformation and innovation have become a buzzword across the globe and governments, organiza-tions and academia and civil societies see this as an answer to major societal- challenges.
He noted that embracing innovative entrepreneurship is part of their core mandate. He implored the class of 2022 graduates to acute the sense of BIUST; that is to be at the vanguard of research, innovation and human development.
When speaking to the theme “Building a University of Industries through a well-rounded Ecosystem for Economic Transformation and Innovative Entrepreneurship.” The Guest of Honor, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of The Bulb World Mr. Ketshephaone Jacob, expressed that for decades enterpreneurs have been idefied as the criticalchange agents in socio- economic development, and some countries countries have been a lot more intentional and successful in promoting enterprising. He applauded BIUST for playing an integral role in terms of providing stimulant of innovative solutions needed for today’ smart manufacturing.
The Assistant Minister of Tertiary Education, Research, Science and Technology Aubrey Lesaso, beseeched the graduating class of 2022 to be innovate and apply the knowledge and skills they have acquired to be the change that this country needs. He commends BIUST for the strides it made amid the difficult conditions imposed by COVID-19 pandemic with potentially devastating impact on the learning of students.
For his part the Head of Business and Commercial Clients at Stanbic Bank Botswana, Mr Calistas Chijoro encouraged the graduands to embrace the challenges that lie ahead and strive for excellence.
